Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, directed by Michel Gondry
2004, R, 1h 48m

When their relationship turns sour, a couple undergoes a medical procedure to have each other erased from their memories forever.

This spring, the Silver Screen Society invites our community to travel through the landscapes of memory — the places we return to, the people we carry with us, and the moments that continue to shape our lives long after they’ve passed. Through five exceptional films spanning documentary, avant-garde cinema, and contemporary storytelling, we’ll explore how love endures, how recollection shifts, and how time can both sharpen and soften the truths we hold.

Beginning with Time, a mother’s decades-long devotion to her family, and concluding with 45 Years, a quiet reckoning with the weight of shared history, this series moves through the complexities of remembering and forgetting. Along the way, we encounter the surreal spaces of Last Year at Marienbad, the emotional reconstruction of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and the tender “what if” of Past Lives.

Together, these films form a meditation on how we understand our lives through the people we have loved, the choices we’ve made, and the memories that accompany us into the future. Each screening will be followed by a guided conversation designed to foster connection, reflection, and community among participants.
