In-Person Lunch Gathering (formerly CHPV Wednesday Drop-in)

Enjoy lunch, conversation and games. Browse the Book and Jewelry Exchange. The buffet lunch begins at 12:00 p.m. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. for exercise and games. Lunch buffet menu varies. Registration is required; pre-payment for lunch is required. Scheduled on the fourth Wednesday each month (unless otherwise announced).  

Location: Augustana Lutheran Church of Hyde Park, Gorder Hall, 5500 South Woodlawn Avenue. Parking available in the church’s parking lot.

2nd Wednesday Drop-In Educational Program & Discussion

Chicago Hyde Park Village members join their friends and make new ones on Zoom while enjoying engaging programs on topics ranging from health and aging to cultural happenings.

Dining-Out Together

These events provide an opportunity to share a meal in the company of fellow food aficionados and to experience, explore and patronize Hyde Park restaurants. Most often diners are able to order off the menu, pay their own tab with a 20% gratuity automatically added, and pay with cash or credit card. Open to all Chicago Hyde Park Village members, non-members, friends, and/or relatives. Invite a friend. In-Person events. Dress is casual. On street parking, unless otherwise indicated.

First Tuesday Dinner Salon
 

Our table meal and conversation await - bring a friend, yourself, an appetite, smiles and good stories. This is an informal, no-host gathering. Conversation centers on life in Hyde Park, travel experiences, upcoming events and/or politics. Registration is not required. Each month several diners volunteer to contribute bottles of wine to share. Scheduled on the First Tuesday each month at 4:30 p.m. Location:  The Snail Thai Cuisine Restaurant, 1649 East 55th Street.

Dining Out Meet-Up


Come and share a meal, engage in good conversation and meet new folks. Registration is required (space is limited). If the dinner is a prix fixe menu, prepayment is required. Usually scheduled late afternoons/early evenings Monday – Thursday, approximately every two months. Location: Varies, check the

Let’s Do Lunch 


Chicago Hyde Park Villagers eating lunch together. Come and share a meal, engage in good conversation, and meet new folks. Registration is required (space is limited). Usually scheduled late mornings Monday – Friday every couple of months. Location: Varies, check the

An excellent way to get to know other people with similar interests and concerns. Current groups include:

Field trips/outings

Several times each year, the Chicago Hyde Park Village plans fun and adventurous outings. Past outings include the Holocaust Museum, the Little Red Schoolhouse, the Smart Museum, the Field Museum, a Frida Kahlo exhibit, Newberry Library, and a Chicago Architecture Center tour of Union Station.

Tech Cafe

Bring your burning tech questions and have them answered by tech savvy UChicago students. The sessions begin with a brief presentation followed by individual troubleshooting. Make sure to bring along your electronic device!  

Periodic Friday afternoons in-person during the academic year.

Yoga For Balance

Yoga sessions incorporate gentle stretching, breath work, modified yoga poses and relaxation. Come breathe, relax, move, and have fun with your friends and neighbors on Zoom! Classes improve strength and balance and take place either standing or seated. No prior experience is necessary.

This 12-week program can improve your memory with just 20-30 minutes of simple activities (reading, writing, and math) each day! This innovative program is easy to follow with the workbook provided to you. Registration required.

Dementia Friend Training

A Dementia Friend learns about dementia and then turns that understanding into action.  Attend an engaging and interactive one-hour session. Learn about the types of dementia, what is normal aging vs Alzheimer's disease, and find out about a variety of resources. We all have a part to play in creating dementia friendly communities! In partnership with Dementia Friendly America.
