Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Chicago Hyde Park Village celebrates and honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement. Here's how you can celebrate in Chicago.
Hyde Park Art Center is proud to present Echoes of Freedom, a day-long celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s enduring legacy. Taking place on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 11 AM to 4 PM, this annual event blends live music, thought-provoking film, engaging art activities, and inspiring discussions to create a rich, multi-dimensional experience for all ages. This year’s theme, Echoes of Freedom, highlights the ways in which art serves as a vessel for collective memory, liberation, and joy while reflecting on Dr. King’s profound impact on social justice and cultural movements.

Where in the World:
CHPV works every day to build a welcoming and inclusive community for all members and friends. Look for three large maps (the addition of a Chicago Neighborhoods map) where we encourage you to place colored pins marking where in the world you have lived. You will also have a chance to answer a few simple questions on paper so we all can learn more about the many different journeys that brought together our CHPV community. Our thanks to Dorothy Strang and CHPV's DEIA Team for their efforts on this initiative.
