Recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15th began the month-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week. In 1988 under President Reagan, it was extended to a month-long celebration.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated every year from September 15th to October 15th to celebrate & recognize the contributions of Hispanic-Americans who have influenced and enriched our society today. Along with celebrating the achievements of Hispanic-Americans, the month celebrates the independence of multiple Latin American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, etc.)
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in a wide variety of ways through festivals, art shows, conferences, community gatherings, and much more. This year, The National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers (NCHEPM) has sponsored a theme for Hispanic Heritage Month named “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.” The theme encourages everyone to ensure that all voices are represented and welcomed to help build stronger communities and a stronger nation.

"National Hispanic Heritage Month is an important reminder of how much strength we draw as a Nation from our immigrant roots and our values as a Nation of immigrants." – The American Presidency Project: Proclamation 10257—National Hispanic Heritage Month, 2021
