The Racial Justice Task Force of the First Unitarian Church 5650 S. Woodlawn, will once again present an updated Emancipation Pageant on Saturday, January 13 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday morning, January 14 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. This pageant is part of the Illinois Commemorative Dates Act calling for celebrations of the Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863. The Pageant describes the background and meaning of the Emancipation in narration and song. It is particularly relevant today as we remind Americans of the history of slavery and, the struggles after the Civil War, interrupted by the Reconstruction period and the continuing efforts of civil rights for all. It is particularly important in building a multicultural/multiracial society in our country, and, ultimately, the world. Join us for the Pageant, and accompanying receptions!
