South Shore Prairies Bird Walk and Nature Tour
November 12, 8:00 a.m.
– 12:00 p.m.
Make-up trip for Oct. 14 rain-out!!!
The lake shore prairies on Chicago’s South Side are among the wildest, least-visited park lands in the city.
Burnham Prairie—aptly christened a wildlife corridor—is an amazing urban wildlife oasis, home to local birds and mammals and a hotspot for migrant birds.
We will head north along the lake shore to find whatever species are using the grasslands, groves and scrubby habitat. The views of Lake Michigan are spectacular and we may find rafts of diving ducks and loons floating offshore.
This trip involves a lot of walking, so be prepared. Hiking boots or sturdy waterproof shoes are recommended. Dress for the weather, which can be extremely changeable in November. Bring binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one. There will be some binoculars to borrow.
Due to the possibility of bad weather, you must RSVP for this trip to Christine Williamson at
birdchris@aol.com
. You will receive an email notice if the trip is cancelled.
