In 1967, Greater Grand Crossing’s own James Gross was a Peace Corps volunteer in Venezuela, where he led the construction of a school in the port city of Puerto Cabello. Forty years later, James led a delegation of Chicago professionals back to Puerto Cabello to revisit the school, the people who came together to build it, and the generations of families who’ve been through its doors.
Join BCH to view excerpts from the film and discuss common issues of people of African descent in Venezuela and around the Americas; international strategies for community economic development; and questions around making a cross-cultural documentary.
Discussion hosted by James Gross, with members of the 2007 delegation:
Mr. James M. Childs, Jr. - JD, retired attorney Ms. Garnet Hall - retired educator
Mr. Vincent Walker - videographer?
