HOW TO TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT YOUR AGING ISSUES

Tuesday, October 18
2-3pm Central
Via Zoom
Free, registration required

Dr. Thompson will discuss how we can get the most from a visit with our doctor beyond addressing current maladies. She will suggest and encourage discussion on often overlooked topics which can greatly increase our quality of life as we age.
Dr. Katherine Thompson is an Associate Professor of Medicine at The University of Chicago Medical Center and sees patients at the South Shore Senior Health Center. In 2014, she founded the South Side Healthy Aging Resource and Education (SHARE) Network to bring information and programs to communities that lack trained specialists to address the unique health needs of older residents, their families and caregivers. She also co-directs the University’s Successful Aging and Frailty Clinic and has collaborated on dozens of panels and scholarly articles. Her many honors include a University of Chicago Biological Science Division Distinguished faculty Award.

CHPV NEWS!

Recognizing Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day

Today millions of Americans around the country recognize and celebrate Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Indigenous Peoples’ Day honors and recognizes the invaluable contributions, histories, and resilience of Native communities. This day also offers us the opportunity to reflect on the persisting violence inflicted on Native people and policies that sought to eradicate or assimilate them for generations. In October 2021, President Biden became the first U.S. President to formally recognize the holiday by signing a presidential proclamation declaring October 11, 2021, to be a national holiday.

"On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the sovereignty, resilience, and immense contributions that Native Americans have made to the world; and we recommit to upholding our solemn trust and treaty responsibilities to Tribal Nations, strengthening our Nation-to-Nation ties."
